The Mississippi Chapter of American Public Works Association held its 2009 annual conference in Brandon. The event started with a golf tournament at the Refuge in Flowood. It was a beautiful fall day - the kind of day we love in the South. After the golf tournament, an awards dinner was held at the Cock of the Walk. The event on Thursday kicked off with a welcome by Mayor Tim Coulter of Brandon. We have several speakers throughout the day and had dinner at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Museum. Our guest speaker was Mr. Dick Burleson. A lifetime member award was presented to Mr. Hibbitt Neel for his service in this orgainzation for thirty years. The member of the year award was presented to Mr. Benny Herring, Public Works Director for the City of Greenwood. On Friday, we heard from a couple of speakers including our vendors who were so gracious to us throughout the conference. A business meeting was hed in which new officers were elected. Mr. Shelby LaSalle, our Regional National Director, was present for our meeting. We were honored to have him at our chapter conference.
